LOCAL METDESK SPECIALIST TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR FAMILIES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN THE LONG ISLAND AREA

Hauppauge, NY, February 13, 2008 - Wallace Boorum, LUTCF, of MetLife's Long Island office, recently completed a comprehensive training program hosted  by MetDESK, MetLife’s Division of Estate Planning for Special Kids, to develop skills for helping families with children or dependents with special needs develop customized financial solutions. There are nearly 50 million individuals over the age of 5 with disabilities in the United States. 3,606,147 (U.S. Census) of those individuals live in New York.

The training program covered such topics as educational advocacy, recent changes in Social Security laws, financial planning and special needs trusts. Specialists can help families address critical issues, including how to protect future government eligibility and ways in which a special needs trust can provide lifetime care. According to Boorum from North Shore Financial Group of Hauppauge, the training is an extremely important component of the MetDESK program. “The workshops provided me with the most up-to-date developments in federal and state benefit laws. I am looking forward to
helping build financial freedom for families of children with special needs on Long Island.” Brian Finn, MetLife national director of MetDESK, believes that the success of the MetDESK, program is directly tied to the quality of its training and the caliber of its financial services representatives, who are among the most accomplished in the industry. “In order for our specialists to be able to provide special needs financial and estate planning support, they must
attend an intensive training program and display the dedication and drive to serve the needs of this distinct community,” explained Finn.
